Technician Extraordinaire

On March 1, Royce Addington, one of our road service technicians, celebrated his 40th year of service with our company. Royce started working at Miami Industrial Trucks (MIT) in 1965 and is the longest tenured employee in our 49-year company history. He is a member of MIT's Service Hall of Fame, winner of our Service Technician of the Year award in 1980 and 2003, and received the prestigious Clark Distinguished Service Award in the 1980s. One of his most unique accomplishments is that he has been the recipient of our Safe Driver Award for 39 out of 40 years. MIT Chairman George Malacos reflects on Royce's history with the company: "Royce is one of the most knowledgeable forklift service technicians in North America, a person with a strong work ethic, a patient man, respected by all his fellow workers and customers, can fix anything and a great family man. He truly is a remarkable individual." For his accomplishments, MIT awarded Royce a check for $1,500. Join us in congratulating our "technician extraordinaire," Royce Addington!

Forklift Truck Seat Sale

We are happy to announce our first factory-backed forklift seat sale. The sale runs from May 23 through July 15, with seats available for all brands. The sale will extend a 15% discount off our normal seat prices. Forklifts last a long time, but with operators frequently getting on and off them, their seats can take a beating.

Now is the time to maximize your operators' productivity by helping to reduce fatigue and discomfort with our new ergonomically designed, deluxe tilt forward/folding seat. With shock and vibration, a forklift can add to operator back stress during its operation. The seat may be the only shock absorber between the operator and the forklift. Seat features include:

  • 6-inch forward and backward adjustment
  • 5 to 15 ½ -inch multi-adjustor mounting
  • Forward tilting and folding back.

Pre-installed seat belts and hip restraints also are available. The proper installation and use of seats and restraints help meet applicable OSHA regulations and OEM specifications. Call the parts department closest to you today for details.

Fast Battery Charging

With the recent introduction of fast chargers to the forklift industry, you now can get batteries specifically designed for the higher current flows associated with rapid charging.

Hawker PowerSource has introduced a new battery to its line-up called Powerline FAST TRAK. These batteries feature the following specialized components to accommodate the higher current of rapid charging:

  • Double-thick inter-cell connectors for better current distribution
  • Dual heavy-duty 2/0 or 4/0 cables
  • SBX 350-amp connector, ensuring batteries are equipped to handle the higher current levels
  • Adapter cable to join the dual cables into a single cable, enabling you to connect to your truck.
Hawker's Powerline FAST TRAK batteries have a three-year limited warranty when properly applied, maintained and used on an approved rapid charger. Miami Industrial Trucks has been an authorized dealer for Hawker since 1982. Give us a call today and get the details on this leading-edge product.

Don't Overlook Your Lift Truck Forks

Serious injuries and lawsuits may be avoided by following OSHA requirements. ANSI B56.1-2000 6.2.8 states that forks shall be inspected in intervals of not less than 12 months. The fork blades and shank shall be thoroughly checked for wear. If the thickness is reduced to 90% of the original thickness, the fork shall not be returned to service.

The safety of everyone working with or near a lift truck in your company is at stake. When forks wear, the lifting ability of a powered industrial truck is jeopardized. This puts the lives of employees in danger. Given the possibility of forks being out of specification and the financial impact of fines, coupled with the fact that forks are one of the first things checked by OSHA inspectors, businesses have several reasons to focus on their lift truck forks.

Please contact Miami Industrial Trucks for a free fork inspection by one of our product support account managers or field service technicians. They have been trained to conduct these tests and have the proper fork wear calipers to measure all the vital areas for a fork inspection. An ounce of prevention can go a long way in avoiding an unnecessary industrial accident. We always put safety first.

Cost Savings Idea

Should You Purchase a Used or New Forklift?

New Forklift

Your real decision should start with your usage and application. Too often, companies overlook the economics of purchasing a forklift. A good rule of thumb is if the truck is going to be used one to four hours a day, a used forklift is a good recommendation. If a truck is being used more than four hours a day, a new forklift would be more applicable.

Many times we see companies putting a significant amount of repair money into a 20-year-old truck, when consideration of a newer used truck might be a better solution. The older trucks are harder to get parts for and at times can be down due to availability. If your application is heavy-duty, requires heavy usage or is in a harsh environment, you should purchase a new forklift. The cost of a five-year-old used forklift is usually about 60% of the cost for a new one.

Used Forklift

Miami Industrial Trucks has over 100 pieces of used forklifts for sale (rider, walkie or narrow aisle). Units are either gas or electric powered. In addition to forklifts, we have used scissor lifts, booms, aerial work platforms, industrial sweepers and scrubbers available. Give our Corporate Used Truck Department a call today at 800-444-4808 to hear about our great selection of used equipment.
